William F. Menz Jr., 84, of Sharon, PA. passed away Saturday morning, Jan. 8, 2023, in Saint John XXIII Home in Hermitage, PA. Bill was born June 25, 1938, in Warren, Ohio, a son of the late William F. Menz Sr., and Theresa (Dellinger) Menz. He was a 1955 graduate of Niles-McKinley High School, Niles, Ohio. A Free and Accepted Mason, Bill was a member of Lodge 279, Niles, OH. Bill loved ham radio and had an extra class license AF3P.
I remember Bill and Tim K3LR building a contest station at the AF3P QTH with a crankup tower and big beams in Bill's back yard. I remember Bill's alunimum back yard with a 40 meter beam, a huge 5 element 20 meter beam, 5 elements on 15M, 5 elements on 10M, phased verticals on 80M and other antennas. Bill also owned a flower shop that had a quad antenna above it. I would visit Bill's home in the 1980's. He was a great host and loved hams to visit. We will miss you Bill. RIP my friend! K8CX
