Tribute to JY1 King Hussein of Jordan
1936 - 1999

Hussein bin Talal was crowned King of Jordan in 1952 at the age of 16 and reigned through turbulent times until his death of lymphatic cancer in 1999. He had many interests including amateur radio.

There is a 12-minute radio interview that starts with King Hussein's voice (speaking in 1961) giving the official welcome as RTE began its first television broadcasts. The recording continues with a well-known Irish TV/radio presenter (Pat Kenny) interviewing EI6AX Bernie O'Sullivan. Bernie (became a SK November 9, 2016) had regular QSO's with King Hussein for about twenty years during the 1970's and 80's. In the interview, Bernie, a born story-teller, relates a few of his more unusual contacts with King Hussein.
