I returned to Canonsburg, PA in 1986. Here are some photos from that visit.
The end of an era - and a legend! W3CRA's abandoned shack. Too depressing to photograph. Old gear everywhere. Amp rack against the wall. And on a shelf were maybe 50 new W3CRA QSL's in perfect condition!?
A forlorn monument. On the trail up to W8CRA's shack in the 1936 there were no trees on the hill, just grass. Now big trees everywhere!
House of Frank's sister, Mary, and Joe Lucas' widow with W3CRA tower remains showing above.
Looking south from Canonsburg up the road to the Lucas property. W3CRA's tower, what's left of it, can barely be seen on the ridge directly above the oncoming car.
Fall of 1986: Frank's sister, Mary and Joe Lucas house on left, W3CRA's tower remains can barely be seen above blue car hood; Frank's brother, Joe's abandoned garage on right.
A close-up of the abandoned garage.
Post WW2 date unknown: After Frank's death, W4CYU and his son evidently visited and talked to Frank's sister, Mary, about buying the hilltop proberty. What the purpose or the details were, I don't know. The deal was never accepted.
