Tribute to Charles
"Charlie" Edward Ring, Jr. WA3PCJ, WA8VNU, W3NU
July 25, 1951 - June 6, 2018
Charlie was a good friend and gentle person. He lived in the same town (Brookfield, OH) as me. I visited him at his home a number of times. I would run into him at most of the local hamfests. His vintage ham equipment was always an interest to me. Charlie had a dial-up bulletin board back when that was popular. He was very good at computers and took care of an internet bulletin board system. He collected old telephones and had a very nice collection and was happy to show anyone interested. Charlie lived in front of an abandoned (cold war era) radar base, later nursing home, that was restricted to enter and highly monitored by the local police. Charlie knew the person that currently owned the property and was allowed to enter. Charlie took me back there one day. The place was full of history and broken down buildings. It was truely an experience. Charlie was employed as the chief engineer for WPIC radio in Sharon, Pa. for over 25 years before being forced into retirement. K8CX
