Tribute to Roy Seldon Drake KA3JFI, W3RTY
July 17, 1939 - August 13, 2020

Roy was born in Orlando, FL. Roy graduated from Sharon High School and Clarion University, both in PA. He was the owner and operator of Burger King in Hermitage, PA for 35 years.
He is a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1964.
Roy was a member of the Avalon Country Club and the Hermitage Volunteer Fire Department.
Roy was a long time member of the MCARC Mercer County Amateur Radio Club.
He enjoyed ham radio and RTTY contests, trains, cooking, auto racing and Pittsburgh Steelers football.
Roy was 81 years old.

Roy was a close friend of mine and pal of Joe, W3JTV (also SK in June). He was also a big RTTY fan. He loved quad antennas and working RTTY DX. Rest in peace Roy. K3LR

Roy has been a friend for many years as we both live in the Shenango Valley. Roy contributed some QSL cards for HamGallery several years ago. Rest in peace my friend. K8CX

Roy's love of RTTY began while he was in Germany during the cold war.  He was involved in some sort of top secret communications for the Army.  He used to tell me about how he loved the smell, feel, and melodious sound of the old Teletype Corporation machines they used.  I always got the feeling that what he was doing over there required a rather high-level security clearance because he never divulged any details.  Even after all those years, secrets are secret to a fellow like Roy Drake.
