March 31, 1942 - August 22, 2023

James was known on radio as Jerry Starr, was a DJ and Production Manager for 45 years, started his career at WFRA in Franklin, Pennsylvania; was a DJ at WHOT in Youngstown;, created WSRD Wizard. was the last of "The Good Guys" retiring in 2002. He was a member of National Radio Club, past president of Mahoning Valley Amateur Radio Association, Mercer County Amateur Radio Club, Broadcasters Hall of Fame, ARRL W8JV call sign Honors Award. He also was a Hot Air Balloon Pilot N4031V and member of Twin State Auto Racing Club.

Jerry was well know as a ham radio operator and was involved in ham radio events around the local area. His wife, Bonnie, is N8MCX.

Jerry loved the hobby and was in the radio room every day when he was home. While in the hospital and in rehab Jerry read the Daily DX every day. N8MCX

I have known Jerry for many years. I would see him at radio clubs, hamfests, etc. We would always talk about our latest DX worked on the bands. Jerry was interested in 160 meter DX. We would compare notes on stations recently worked on 160M. He was a good friend and will be missed. K8CX

Jerry, W8JV is SK as of this morning. Age 81. Married to Bonnie, N8MCX for 50 years. Jerry was a “HOT Jock” at WHOT for years as Jerry Starr - known as the “Good Guys” Jerry was a GREAT MCARC (Mercer County Amateur Radio Club) member, a K3LR operator and president for many years at MVARA (Mahoning Valley Amateur Radio Assn.) Rest in peace W8JV. K3LR

Jerry was an operator in 1998 at K3LR Multi/Multi on 40 meters.
