Banaba Island

Stacey King, Secretary of the Banaban Heritage Society preparing to leave Banaba standing on the beach at the back of Uma Point. 30 foot waves were lashing the boat harbour and we had to board our small landing craft (an aluminium dingy) by walking out on the reef and being manually pushed out to sea in our landing craft. Our ship - the Kiribati Govt. fishing vessel the "Te Kaneti" had been drifting off shore for 5 days. The vessel is to big to enter the island small boat harbour.
