Email to Tim Duffy K3LR, October
2013:
I wish to thank you for your patience and allowing
me to have my first ever 160m SSB QSO and working you on 5 bands
(160m to 15m) last weekend during the CQWW DX SSB Contest. I
tried working you on 10m too but you were not able to hear me. I
also want to thank the OM who congratulated me for working you on
5 bands. He was the one working 40m at that time. Working 160m
was a long time dream for me since I always thought it needs
acres of space for the huge antennas. I was astonished when I was
able to make it work from my less than 20x30 ft backyard!
Just a bit of background, I started being a ham in 1985 when I was 12 years old. I belonged to DU1DBT (later DX1DBT) which is the club station of Don Bosco Technical College in Manila, Philippines. The club is very much into contesting. My ex-call is DU1JIG.
I moved to Mississauga, Ontario last 2002 and got my license in 2011. My "contest" rigs are Kenwoods, TS-520 (defective 40m and 10m) and TS-450SAT. Two weeks before the CQWW DX SSB, the RX audio on the TS-450SAT disappeared. Luckily, one of my Elmers lent his Yaesu FT-1000MP so I can still join the contest. My antennas are nested loops for 20 and 15m, Carolina Windom for 40-10m, and G7FEK limited space antenna for 160-40m.
I don't want to take any more of
your time. I just wanted to express my gratitude and looking
forward to working you again.
