Derek Linton in W4KVX Don Chesser's hamshack in 1959
Derek Linton from Durban, South
Africa visited Don Chesser in Burlington, KY.
Derek was in charge of the round-the-world Anglo-African safari
which was to include at least on ham operator, perhaps from the
USA. Derek secured equipment from Hallicrafters in Chicago and
various other suppliers. The safari would include 6 men with two
Willys 4WD trucks that would put on around 70,000 miles each in
21 months to 2 years and would depart Durban, South Africa on
December 31, 1959.
Here is a map showing the route of the safari!
Did this safari actually take place and was there ham radio activity? I'm not sure!
