LA5ID/G/MM 1969
LA5ID/G/MM was operated aboard
H.M.S. Endurance (Royal Navy Ice Patrol Ship) 25 May-19 June 1969
by the Norwegian Liaison Officer. 59 countries were contacted.
The ship sailed through thick ice NW of Spizbergen
to meet with the expedition after their completion of the first
surface crossing of the Arctic Ocean (3700 route miles).
On 11 June the ship's two helicopters lifted the expedition off
the ice on their 477th day after leaving Point Barrow in Alaska,
and took them back to a hero's welcome in England.
