The French Port-Martin Antarctic station was established on January 20th 1950 at Cape Margerie - Adelie Land at 62 km west of Dumont d'Urville (built later in 1956).

Studies including mainly Seismology, glaciology, meteorology were carried out for 2 years. 11 expeditioners have wintered in 1950-1951 then 17 in 1951-1952.

On January 24th 1952 a fire destroyed the station. The staff was evacuated to France except 7 persons who opened the small Marret Station on Petrels Island.
