Bouvetoya (Bouvet Island) claimed by Norway in 1927 is an uninhabited volcanic protected nature reserve island in the subantarctic South Atlantic ocean. It is 19 square miles in size. It is located at the southern end of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge making it the world's most remote island. The island experiences constant bad weather and has little to no landing area.

Bouvet Is., 3Y/B. wasn't on the post-WWII DXCC list which was published in 1947. The ARRL announced the addition of Bouvet to the DXCC list in the March 1963 QST.

The August 1951 issues of both the RSGB Bulletin and Short Wave Magazine report a QSO on 2nd July 1951 between GM2BDX and LN7B that claimed to be on Bouvet Island. Nothing else is known.

There was a 2 hour operation from Bouvet by 3Y1VC (LA1VC) and 3Y3CC (LA3CC) on Feb.24, 1977 from 1500-1700Z. John Snuggerud 3Y1VC made 27 QSO's, Audun Hjelle 3Y3CC made 5 contacts. See 3Y1VC QSL & photo! See 3Y3CC QSL & photo!

3Y5DQ Thore Winsnes LA5DQ sk was on Bouvet as a geologist working for NPI. He operated from December 1978 to January 1979 and made 550 QSO's. See 3Y5DQ QSL card! During that time John Snuggerud LA1VC went back to operate 3Y1VC. During the first 3 months of 1979 he made 1930 contacts. See 3Y1VC 1979 QSL, photo, & info!

3Y0FP was approved for March 1988. SM7DSE / 7S8AAA were off shore and couldn't get on island with their helocopter due to bad weather.

KC4/N4GCK 1994. Some thought this was from Bouvet. He was actually on Peter I Island with the 3Y0PI DXpedition. He used the /KC4 to handle 3rd party traffic back to friends in the states.

3Y0Z team was a go for early 2018. They made it to the island and were waiting for the weather to break to use the ships 2 helicopters to get on the island. While waiting, one of the ships 2 engines failed. The captain decided to abort the DXpedition and headed back to Cape Town, South Africa. Most of the team said they will retry in 2019 or 2020. This didn't happen. See the 3Y0Z website for the story!

3Z9DX March 2019, The Rebel DX Group led by Dom Grzyb 3Z9DX were overtaken be a severe storm within a few hundred miles of the island and turned back.

3Y0J In April 2021, Paul Ewing N6PSE Inerepid-DX Group with Ken Opskar LA7GIA announced a 2023 Bouvet Is. DXpedition. The ship they planned to use was the famous MV Braveheart. However the ship was sold and donations were refunded. They looked for other transportation but ended up canceling.

Dom Grzyb 3Z9DX is still planning to try in December 2021.

3Y0J A group led by Ken Opskar LA7GIA with LA7THA, LB1QI, LB5GI, KO8SCA, HA0NAR, RA9USU, KO7SS, VE7NY, DL6KVA, AB5EB is planning to try in November 2022. This looks like a GO! The date and team was revised.
The 3Y0J team of LA7GIA, LA7THA, LB1QI, LB5GI, KO8SCA, VE3LYC, NP4G, KO7SS, N0FW, DL6KVA, AB5EB, WD5COV departed England January 11, 2023 and landed in the Falkland Islands on January 12. They loaded the Marama sailboat, waited for good weather and headed for Bouvet on January 17. Some of the team were /MM using their home calls. The team is receiving Starlink Internet service thanks to Elon Musk. The group arrived at Cape Fie Bouvet on January 31, waiting for better weather and started preparations to land. A zodiak landing was made in difficult conditions and LA7GIA went into the water and had to swim 30 meters but clothing stayed dry. 4 team members spent 4 days on Bouvet in difficult conditions and returned to the Marama February 3. The wx looks very bad for the next several days. The operation will be scaled back some. More operators made it to the island. They starting on 30 meters February 6 and ended of February 13 wih 18,628 contacts in their log.
