FQ8HN 1961 Central African Republic
The FQ8 prefix was used for French Equatorial Africa (aka Ubangi-Shari before 1958), and became a deleted ARRL entity on August 16, 1960. The date on this card is March 18, 1961 and QTH listed on the card is Bangui, Republique Centrafricaine (R.C.A.) which changed to the TL8 prefix. Perhaps Central African Republic didn't change their callsign prefix until later.
Several of my FQ8 cards are dated after August, 1960, or 1961. All of them indicated they were in Brazzaville. There is no indication of them being in Central African Republic. It appears that part of FQ8 was behind times. Most likely those cards would count for TL8 today. 73, Jim W6YA
I agree with Jim's assessment. FQ8HN became TL8AB. I'm not sure when the change happened. The date of the QSO on the card you sent Tom is the latest I have seen. Previously Club Log mapped FQ8HN to C.A.R. up to 28 Feb 61, I have now extended that to 31 March 61. The earliest TL8AB QSO in Club Log is 11 June 1961, so the callsign change took place sometime in the period late March-early June. Alan 5B4AHJ
