W6YOT/C6 1947 China
Little bit of trivia for your QSL
card from W6YOT to W4CYU, dated August 31, 1947. First Lt. N.
"Red" Forsberg was my Platoon leader in Tsingtao, China
and Msgt. Martin was my First Sgt. While serving in 12 Service
Bn. / 2nd. Prov. Combat Serv. Gp. Lt. Fleet Marine Force Western
Pacific. W6YOT operated from two locations in Tsingtao. Shantung
University Compound where the BC 610 Xmtr. was located and also
our work location (Japanese Compound) where W6YOT used a TCS
xmtr/ recv. In fact , I installed the long -wire antenna at the
Japanese compound for this Rig. Later after departing Tsingtao,
China in 1949, I did see Lt. Col. N. Forsberg at Marine Base, San
Diego, California in 1952. He was Commander of the Communication
School at that time . I was driving through Gate one day enroute
to Camp Matthews ( Rifle Range) for MCRD, San Diego when the Gate
Guard ask me if I was going to Camp Matthew. I replied yes, and
he said the Colonel needs ride to the range. Guess Who? Yep my
old platoon leader from Tsingtao, China. He needed to go to range
for his annual 45 Auto Qualification. Had a nice visit on our
trip to the range. Never had the pleasure of seeing him again but
did find his QTH to be 100 Harrison St. San Francisco, Ca in I
believe the 1956 Call Book. Also Sgt. Major Martin was assigned
to First Recruit Training Bn. at this same time. I've never been
able to find any further information on either of these fine
Marines. Thought you'd like this bit of trivia for your
collection.
Maybe I'll catch you on the air some day when propagation
improves.

PFC David C. Swann, LT. Nils B. E.
Forsberg and MSGT Jack H. Martin were in the same U. S. Marine
unit in July 1948.
