XU6GRL 1947 China
Operator: Chas.(Doc) E. Stuart W6GRL
I just found a new article about an old acquaintance who connected ham radio (me) with dentistry (me again). It's about a dentist in Ventura, CA who was very famous in his field, teaching concepts in occlusion and developing new ideas and instruments. I was in his classes in 1980, just a year before he died.
Not many dentists who knew him were aware of the fact that he was a radio ham and very involved with long range radio transmissions from China before, during and after WWII. He and his dedicated wife were the connection that provided the only news out of China during the Japanese invasion, and later during the Chinese Revolution.
For those of you who are hams, his call was W6GRL. In the '30s, '40s, and early '50s he was at or near the top of the DXCC list.
