May 1997: The name was changed back from Zaire to Democratic Republic of Congo.

4 Star US Gen. Theodor J. Conway, W4EII, who was the Commander-in-Chief of the United States Strike Command,(USCINCSTRIKE/USCINCMEAFSA) from 1966 to 1969, which had jurisdiction covering Middle East, Africa- south of the Sahara, and South Asia.
