Fred A. Chapman, ex-4DS (South Carolina), Silent Key (1895-1983)
First Amateur station in the Republic.

Chapman was employed by The Barahona Company, probably as a wireless operator. The Barahona Company, registered in New York in 1916, acquired almost 50,000 acres of land in the western part of the Domincan Republic.

He was retired from Tropical Radio Corporation and was a pilot for Pan American Airways. He was a World War I veteran.

Fred Adolphus Chapman, son of James M. Chapman and Sallie Black, was born March 28, 1895 in Ward, South Carolina. He died September 30, 1983 and is buried in the Good Hope Lutheran Church Cemetery in Ward.
