VR3B 1957 Fanning Island

Operator: Deane Laws, VK4ALN. He is the son of Norman H. Laws, ex-VK4MOR (Silent Key, 1970).

At that time Fanning Island was a submarine cable station. The population was 230 people. The island was served by mail every four months. Power was limited and amateur radio operators has to use battery power half of the time.
