G6US 1931 England

G6US was N. E. Read (Eddie Read)
His address was at Llanymynech, a small town spanning the Welsh-English border.
(the border actually ran through one of the town pubs, so when Sunday drinking was banned in Wales, you could drink at the bars on the English side of the pub)

T&R Bulletin September 1931 (R.S.G.B.) shows his appointment as District Repreentative-Durham and Northumberland Division 2 (North-Eastern)

T&R Bulletin November 1938 shows an advert from him (he now has a shop) selling his own brand aerial wire and insulators.
His address was now 24 Church Strret, Oswestry, Shropshire. ( English side of the Welsh border )

We can now jump to October 1960. Radcom (RSGB) has a letter to the editor on the then topical subject " Taming the 807". His address was Oswestry, Shropshire,

And July 1962 Short Wave Magazine (British) an article  "Building a lattice mast".

Well, he moved around a bit pre-war and seems to have been involved in the hobby all his life.

In 1990 a London man named Jim Read formed a company called Newgate Watches.
On the Company's current website there is advertising for a line called G6 Watches.
"Designed in our British studios by Newgate founder and head designer, Jim Read".
 The new G6 watch draw inspiration from the Morse code call sign (G6US) used by pioneering MI5 radio engineer Eddie Read.
An early adopter of radio technology during his time as a communications expert in the British secret service,
 Eddie is Jim’s late grandfather. Eddie had a big influence on Jim’s fascination with time and moving-part design, so Jim wanted to honour Eddie with this new collection."

So now we know a little more about what G6US did with his spare time, when he was not on the air.
