PY7AN/0 1957 Fernando de Noronha Island

Fernando de Noronha has been accredited separate country status by ARRL as announced at the 1958 Fresno DX Convention by Bob White W1WPO.

Info about this PY7AN/0, PY7ACY/0 DXpedition from Phil Hendricks W0YFE: Phil is stationed on this island as a rep. of RCA/PAA on the missle range project. The idea of this 1st DXpedition was conceived by Major Mafra PY7BAD, Governor or the Territory of Fernando de Noronha. By personal trips to Rio he succeeded in obtaining the prefix assignment PY0 for the island, and arranged for the trip by Vic PY7AN and Odacy PY7ACY. In the 3 days, Dec. 13th to Dec. 15th, 1957, 1049 QSO's were made on 14 mc. phone & CW. 40 - 45 countries were worked. Equipment included an NC183D, HQ100 and preselector, 813 CW rig running 120W, ART-13 phone rig, and doublet antennas. Operation was from the school house in the village of St. Anna. Two other hams, Sgt Camilo PY7LR, and Capt Macedo PY7SC are now stationed on the island with Phil. Phil is not aloud to operate as Brazil only licenses native born Brazilians.
