The "M" stood for the Marianas.

The operator was Radioman First Class Phillip Wallace Ivester, USN, K7AFY, ex-W7FOB and K6LHO.
He was a Chief Electricians Mate on the USS Charleston in 1939.
He was promoted to Lt. Commander in 1949.
He was born April 14, 1909 in Washington and became Silent Key in April 1974 in Washington.
