KG4AO 1950 Guantanamo Bay
KG4AO at the US Naval Base in
Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Chief Operator shown is Fred Bowles, RM/lc,
USN, K4CQV of Richmond, VA.
The station is primarily used for phone patch service for Naval
personnel. This service is now of prime importance because all
commercial phone lines to the base are inoperative as of October
1, 1958, a result of the internal Cuban difficulties.
The station consists of a T350XM Navy transmitter running about 600W to a pair of 813's, two 75A3's, and a Globe King 500.
The antenna is a 20M 3 element beam. This station is a duplicate of KG4AA, across the bay at Leeward Point, which provides the same service.
