John K4BAI, Paul W4YWX (now N4PN), Gene TG9EP
TG0AA 1967 Guatemala
Last time I heard, Gene TG9EP was still alive, but hasn't been on the air in years. However, at that time, he was listed on QRZ.com. So, I assume he may be SK or no longer licensed. He was a great host. He worked as a pharmacist and owned a tourist shop. He used the phonetics "Thank God Nine Easy Payments". When we weren't in the contest, we were hosted at the home of a couple of Americans, Frank TG9FT and his XYL (maybe TG9ET, later TG4ET). Her name was Ellie. Frank became a SK many years ago, but Ellie apparently stayed on in Guatemala at their country home. That was my first trip out of the country for CQWW, to be followed by many more in future years. The next year, I was in Korea in the Army and four of us did a M/S from HL9US for both SSB and CW contests. 73, John K4BAI.
