YI1LM 1929 Iraq
After WWI (1914-18), Iraq was
under British protection.
Accordingly, various units of the British Army, Royal Air Force
etc., were stationed there.
Amateur radio flourished, being mostly operated by service
personnel.
The operator was Charles Daniel
Connerton, R.A.F.
His rank rose from Sargant to Warrant Officer, Flight Officer and
in 1958 to Wing Commander at R.A.F. Puckle Church, Bristol,
England.
He was known to be active from two DX locations: YI1LM and VU2FX (1931-35). No home call
was found.
In 1937 he was a guest operator at G8FC -- Electrical &
Wireless School, R.A.F. Cranwell, Lincs., England. He signed the
QSL card with "YI1LM."
