KA2NY 1965 Japan
I was a civilian engineer for the
US Navy Shore Electronics Agency at Yokosuka from 1965 - 1968. In
my spare time I soon discovered the KA2NY "ham shack"
that was installed in what was the bridge from a WWII Japanese
war ship. The KA2NY shack was in a state of disrepair when I
first saw it and I befriended the Naval Base special services
officer, John Daly Jr. (the son of the late and famous John Daly,
host of the old radio show What's My Line). With his help I was
able to garner some funds to reequip the MARS and KA2NY ham
shack. This sparked a new life into KA2NY and we became something
of a club once again. That was in 1968. I returned stateside
later that year. Lots of nice memories of Japan and the old days.
