KM6DU/KH6 1970 Kure Island

Kure Island is about 60 miles northwest of Midway Atoll. I just came across a 9 ½ minute recording of me operating as KM6DU/KH6 from Kure Island on July 19, 1970.  It was made during our second dxpedition to Kure Island. This tape recording was made by my father (WB4PYQ) listening from his home in Aiken, South Carolina on 20 meters. I was an AT&T engineer living on Midway Island at the time (KM6DT). My friend, Paul Kraus (KM6DQ), supply officer on Midway, and I made two trips to Kure in 1970 to operate from there.  The first trip was on May 8, 1970 and we operated as KM6DQ/KH6 on that first trip and KM6DU/KH6 on the second trip. We used a Mosley three element beam and my HeathKit SB301 receiver and SB401 transmitter and SB200 Linear. Kure Island was a US Coast Guard Loran C navigation base managed by 23 men. We ran phone patches for every person stationed on the Island. Over a thousand QSL cards were sent out from the two trips.
