KM6AE 1948 Midway Island

Here is Joseph J. Dale's card (KM6AE) that started at Midway Island on March 13, 1948. It looks like it traveled by Army ship to Canton Island and was post marked there August 16, 1948. It then went on to Hawaii where it was post marked on November 10, 1948, and then it make it to Bill Shuler W7BE in Seattle Washington, date unknown, about a year after it was first mailed.... I wonder how many cards were lost over these long trips or are still out there on endless trips?  regards...Patrick
