ZD1FG, Mr. Arthur W. Torrie, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Torrie, James St., pictured teaching natives in Sierra Leone, West Africa, where he has served under Unesco's technical assistance programme since March. An ex-pupil of Gisborne High School, he is working in the science education field.

Torrie has authored several books; and has written educational studies about teaching science in Ceylon, and West Africa. He was a member of the New Zealand Education Service.

In 1944 A. W. Torrie, of Napier, New Zealand, was promoted to Lieutenant in the Royal New Zealand Volunteer Reserve (New Zealand Army).

He was also HS1AHW in Bangkok, Thailand.
