OM Bert ZS6HS is a Grand Oldtimer & a good friend of 94 yrs of age, the oldest & most active oldtimer in ZS. Bert has been a member of the SARL for an unbroken period of 77 yrs. He is active on most bands but more especially UHF & VHF & Digital. He was recently awarded the SARL's Presidents Award & Gold pen, in recognition of his loyalty.
Bert Howes was originally in Cape Town in the early 1930's. He was the Chief Communications Officer to the General, in the North African war, 1939 to 1945. Bert moved to ZS6HS another province of South Africa, on his return to South Africa, when the war ended. I rate him as an Amateur Radio Legend, as a grand gentleman & so loyal & dedicated for in excess of 80 years. He also knew my father Len Wells, ZS1AU, in the early 1920's ( Len Wells S/K in 1950).
