HL9KH 1963 South Korea
Captain Don Miller W9WNV in the service.
About Don Miller...... Yep he was
a peculiar guy and yes he made a bunch of mistakes but he was a
fantastic CW op. Don spent his early years in Chicago operating
from a high rise apartment as W9WNV. It was there that he honed
his operating skills. I heard him many times chasing DX but never
actually worked him as W9WNV.
My very first QSO with Don was in 1961 when he was signing HL9KH
from S. Korea. At the time, Don was an Army MD. I served with the
US 8th Army in Korea during the war years (1952 and 53). Don and
I exchanged stories about Korean service. He was especially
interested in our unit location which was just up the road from
NORMASH (Norweign Mobile Surgical Hospital). He asked many
questions about NORMASH and their operation. Perhaps you recall
the TV production MASH.....
Don could take tail-enders like no other op that I have ever
heard. W4BPD and K0IR comes close but Don was the best.
