W1TS 1940 West Hartford, Connecticut
Operator: Don Mix
These photos are dated July 3, 1923.
Don Mix typing on the mill at
the Zenith equipment bench in the Radio Room aboard the Schooner
Bowdoin WNP at Sydney.
Note long gun behind the stool.
There is some speculation that there is a (Maxim) silencer
attached to the rifle that appears in these two photographs.
Regardless of the purpose of such an application, it is not a
stretch as Don Mix and Hiram Percy Maxim were friends and ARRL
colleagues.
Note: Hiram's father, Sir Hiram
Stephens Maxim invented the Maxim machine gun.
Hiram 1AW invented the Maxim gun silencer, a muffler for gas
engines, plus other items.
