The owner of the station was Royal Joseph Higgins, W9AIO, ex-9AIO and 9DSO (1922). Of the other three operators only one had his own callsign - John A. Hansman, 9CYR.
Royal graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1930 with a Bachelor Degree of Commercial Science.
Early in his career Royal was employed by Sears Roebuck and Company.
Beginning around 1935 Royal was in charge of sales promotion for The Hallicrafters Company of Chicago, then was appointed Director of Advertising and Sales Promotion.
In the 1940 Census his occupation is listed as "Sales Engineer - Wholesale Radio."
By 1944 Royal had formed his own company, the Royal J. Higgins Company.
His firm represented companies such as The Turner Company, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and provided field engineering support for Eitel-McCullough, Inc.

Royal was born March 14, 1907 in Chicago and died April 1, 1960 in Chicago.
