What makes this one interesting is that it seems his father William Sr. should have been the one that was licensed. William Sr. graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1900. He was elected to the American Institute of Electrical Engineers in 1903. William Jr. was born in 1909 so he was involved in amateur radio as a teenager (probably influenced by his father). He had a brother Henry born in 1912 and another brother Roy born in 1915. His mother Hazel died in 1923 at age 36. In 1930, while working in Alaska as a Mechanical Engineer for the Alaska Railroad, William Sr. remarried a woman named Vivian C. Brown. The crazy thing is that they were married via Telegraph ! William Sr. was in Anchorage while his bride was in Minneapolis.
