He became interested in radio in 1909 and operated with the call letters “LF” in the United States until licensed as 3HU (Portsmouth, Virginia) in about 1911. Then went to sea as a radio operator aboard the U.S. Coast & Geodetic steamship Bache (radio call letters NLK). He was licensed as 5ZA in 1920 and later as W5ZA. His residence was Roswell, New Mexico.

Louis Falconi was born March 25, 1895 in Genzano Di Lucania, Potenza, Italy. In 1918 he married Eunice Presley in Roswell, New Mexico. He was active until his death January 1, 1948 in Roswell. He and his are wife buried in the South Park Cemetery, Roswell, New Mexico.

In a special action to recognize the pioneer contributions of W5ZA, the FCC assigned his call to his widow, Mrs. Eunice P. Falconi, in order for her to perpetuate the call as a memorial to Louis.
