John Hubert Gullans, W2AWU,
EX-W1BKI, 1BKI and 2AWU. John, 2AWU, first appeared in a callbook
in 1926.
There are three operators of station 2AWU listed: Homer Gullans,
Norman Gullans and Ben Gullans.
Homer is the only one ever listed in a callbook. Norman
Everett Gullans was his brother and Bernard E. "Ben"
Gullans was a cousin.
Homer Gullans, whose full name is John Homer R. Gullans, was the
oldest son of Rev. John H. Gullans.
Rev. Gullans arrived in the United States from Finland in
1889, became a naturalized citizen of the U.S.A. in 1892 and
married Clara A. Johnson in Massachusetts.
John, W2AWU, was a member of The Institute of Radio Engineers in
1930 and he was mentioned in the December 1966 issue of
Broadcasting magazine:
John H. Gullans, Facility Manager in Operations and Engineering
department of NBC, New York, is appointed Director, Radio Network
Operations.
He was born December 7, 1907 in Massachusetts. His date of death
is not known.
