8BAS/W8BAS was Jack B. Hoagland
Jack was a member of the
Chair Warmers Club.
He suffered a spinal injury in 1915 at age 12 which confined him to a wheel chair. He relayed messages from the Byrd expedition to the South Pole. The Byrd radio operator later visited Marion, OH to present Jack Hoagland with an American Flag from the South Pole. Jack was also a founding member of the Marion Amateur Radio Club and served as its first Treasurer. He started a radio & television repair shop based out of his house at 212 Barnhart Street in 1937.

Jack was born 2/20/1903 and died 2/18/72
