W8YLN 1970 Columbus, Ohio

Operator: Robert K. Dye

These two gentlemen W8YDD and W8YLN were inspirational in both my brother and I getting our ham tickets.
In the summer of 1970, we were teenagers listening to shortwave radio in the 41 metre band when we came across two loud AM amateur signals in the 40 metre amateur band.
We discovered they had a regular schedule and could be heard easily here in southern Ontario.
Then, they started reading SWL reports over the air that they had received, kind of like a mailbox program.
Of course, we sent off a report, and shortly thereafter, heard them read it over the air.
We were thrilled, and determined to get ham licenses of our own, which happened in 1974.
