W3AZT 1930 Philedelphia, Pennsylvania

Blank QSL card belonging to Christie S. Urback who was licensed as W3AZT in the early 1930’s. Christie was born in Philadelphia, PA on 4/5/1905. In 1918 he attended the National Radio Institute. On 8/4/1930 he was appointed to the Philadelphia Fire Department and prior to his appointment his occupation was listed as an Aviator. On 10/18/1930 he graduated from Fire Training School and was issued badge # 1763 and was assigned as a Ladderman at Truck 12 located at 1325 West Cambria Street. On 2/6/1936 he transferred to Fireboat 2 (The Rudolph Blankenburg) which was stationed at Pier 57 North on Columbia Ave. He retired from the Philadelphia Fire Department on 10/8/1958 after 28 years of service. At some point Christie must have let his license lapse and around 1960 became relicensed as K3RJD. Christie’s radio nickname was “Doc”. Christie died on 10/12/1987 in Tuckerton, NJ at age 82.
