W1AGI 1929 Newport, Rhode Island
His full name was William
Christian Nielson. He had another call in 1931 -- W1CEI. Sometime
later he got his W1AGI back.
In 1942 when he registered for the WWII draft he was employed by
the U.S. Government at the U.S. Naval Torpedo Station, Newport,
RI.

WA1FFL:
Hi OM- I noticed a card by W1AGI- my grandfather! This is the
only one in existence that I have seen. He died in 1949 and I
never knew him. He never got a degree but taught himself
electronics by building and taking courses at Brown University.
He was also an expert golfer and swimmer and performed in musical
theater!
The amazing thing is, not only did you have his card, it was one
of his earliest- I think he went on the air about 1928-9. He
worked a ZL with this station and I can scan it and send that to
you as well- I still have the card. But your card is the only one
I have seen that he himself sent out. I looked up that tube- a
210- and apparently many hams used the UX210 for 1-tube
transmitters back then. I do know that he built a modulator in
the early 1930's and ran about 160 watts input on phone.
