5AIJ 1924 Lubbock, Texas

Operator: Paul Martin Hargis, W5KA, ex-5AIJ, Silent Key (1907-1956).
He often traveled to Asia with his parents, Oscar Dean Hargis and Eula Von Rosenberg. On one trip he operated from a station in China.
Paul and his wife, Jewell Hargis, operated the Hargis-Austin electronic store In Austin, Texas.
The call W5KA is now used by the Austin Amateur Radio club.

Side note by W5KNE: In 1961 I took some classes at the University of Texas at Austin and rented the house owned by Jewell Hargis, W5KA's widow. I was allowed to view negatives of pictures taken by W5KA during trips with his parents. In addition, I had the use of his windmill tower and a full-sized 80 meter dipole, which was supported by two extended telephone poles. In addition I worked part time at the Hargis-Austin store.
