K5AG 1939 Canal Zone
As far as I know I'm the 3rd
holder of this call. Fort Clayton, Canal Zone being the first,
then Mr Joel Hirsch from Alexandria, LA held this call until his
death around 1997. I applied for it via Vanity system and was
informed it was not issueable because Joel Hirsch was still
alive. No one had informed them that he was a SK. I knew Joel
personally during this time. I phoned the FCC in Gettyburg, PA,
and was informed I would have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt
that he had passed away. Being a retired Federal Fire Chief and
also being resourceful, I traveled to Alexandria, LA, and visited
the funeral home that handled Joel's funeral services. I obtained
documentation/proof of his passing and then traveled to the
Social Security Office and did the same thing. Joel was never
married and had no living relatives at the time of passing, thus
no one reported this to the FCC. After acquiring all the info, I
send a packet to the FCC with another application for the Vanity
call K5AG.
