Danzig was a "Free City" after WW I; it was under the auspices of the League of Nations (pre-WWII 'United Nations' - part of the enclave was under Polish, part under German 'domination'. There was a League Commissioner as the Highest Authority. It was here, in Danzig, where early morning on September 1st 1939 the second World War began around five o'clock in the morning...
