The operator was the Dutch pilot
Gerson van Messel, 31 May 1902 - 24 Jan. 2000, who served in the
KLM and in the 1930's in the KNILM (Royal Dutch Indian Airways).
Since July 1938 until the Japanese invasion we has regularly
flying for KNILM between Batavia (Jakarta) and Sydney. The QSL
card shows a Douglas DC-2 which had seats for 14 passengers.
At the age of 97 and a few months before his death he made his
last flight in a DC-2 from London to Amsterdam. He was also
holder of the call-sign PA0PVX.
('Fiets' was his nickname and is the Dutch word for 'bicycle')
