Email from VK6PZ sent to DL9WVM:
My callsign on Cocos Keeling was VS1BK/ZC2.
This is because the Islands at the time I was there, 1945-46,
were under the Singapore British Military Administration. VS1 at
that time was the prefix for Singapore and ZC2 for Cocos.
During the war I served in Burma as a Pilot and Glider Pilot. I am 86. At the end of the war I was sent to Cocos as Officer in charge of the Staging Post. I returned to UK for a year of study and then went to Malaysia in 1948 as a Rubber Planter. I worked there and in Indonesia and Liberia W. Africa till 1988. I gave up my 9M2CP call sign a few years later. For a long time it was not reissued but now someone else has it...
I have attached a very rare card which is the one I used until Malaya achieved "Merdeka" or Independence when the VS2 prefix which was used for The Federated Malay States was changed to 9M2. The Unfederated Malay States were also allotted the 9M2 prefix. I no longer have any of my old 9M2 cards.
I have had the VK6PZ call for many years now as I held it concurrently with my 9M2 Call.
Hope the above is of interest to
you. All the best for the New Year and maybe we might have a qso
long path as I have a reasonable set-up here but unfortunately
rarely use it.
